The Ellipsa Interior Design Process

A calm, considered approach to creating refined interiors.

Design-led process

Ellipsa follows a structured, design-led process that brings clarity to complex decisions and ensures each space is developed with intention.

From the earliest concept through to detailed specification, every stage is carefully considered, balancing structure with warmth, materiality and long-term performance. This approach allows you to feel supported, informed and confident throughout the journey.

Why process matters

Thoughtful interiors don’t happen by chance.

A clear design process allows ideas to be tested, refined and resolved before decisions are fixed, reducing uncertainty, avoiding costly changes later, and ensuring the finished space feels cohesive and considered rather than pieced together. Ellipsa’s process is designed to give each project the time and attention it deserves.

Stage 1: Concept & Spatial Planning

The first stage focuses on understanding how the space will be used, how it should feel, and how it relates to the structure and style of the building.

This stage may include:

  • Reviewing layouts and proportions

  • Exploring spatial flow and functionality

  • Establishing the overall design direction

  • Identifying key opportunities and any constraints

The result is a clear design concept that forms the foundation for all future decisions.

Stage 2: Design Development

Once the concept is agreed, the design is developed in more detail.

This stage brings clarity to the look and feel of the space through:

  • Material and finish development

  • Colour palette refinement

  • Joinery and built-in elements

  • Lighting intent and atmosphere

  • Key furniture and feature elements

Design decisions are considered in context, ensuring the space feels balanced.

Stage 3: Specification & Detailing

This stage focuses on translating the design into clear information that can be implemented accurately.

It may include:

  • Detailed finish and material specifications

  • Fixture and fitting selections

  • Joinery and bespoke element detailing

  • Coordination with contractors or consultants where required

Careful specification helps protect the design intent, maintain clear communication with tradespeople and supports accurate costing and procurement.

Stage 4:  Guidance on Furniture, lighting and finishing touches

Furniture, fittings and equipment are selected to support both the design concept and the way the space will be used.

Guidance typically covers:

  • Furniture and lighting selections

  • Finishes, soft furnishings and accessories

  • Durability, comfort and maintenance considerations

  • Ensuring cohesion across all elements

The aim is to create a complete, well-balanced interior that feels considered rather than over-styled.

Sustainability within the process

Sustainability is integrated throughout the design process rather than treated as a separate stage.

Material choices, layouts and detailing are considered with longevity in mind, favouring quality, durability and responsible sourcing wherever possible. This approach supports interiors that age well both aesthetically and practically.

What you can expect

Throughout the process, you can expect:

  • Clear guidance and honest advice

  • A collaborative but structured approach

  • Thoughtful decision-making rather than rushed choices

  • Attention to detail at every stage

Concurrent projects are intentionally limited in number to allow for focus, continuity and care.
